The Bligh Waters and the Vatu-i-Ra Passage are among Fiji’s most celebrated dive regions—often whispered about in diver circles for good reason. Stretching between Fiji’s main islands, this marine corridor delivers exceptional biodiversity, vivid soft coral gardens, and over 50 world-class dive sites brimming with colour and life.
The Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands offer a gentler, sun-soaked side of Fiji diving—where turquoise lagoons meet coral gardens and relaxed drift dives give way to dramatic drop-offs. Just a short boat ride from Nadi, these island chains are known for their picture-perfect beaches above water and vibrant, accessible reefs below.
Just off the southern coast of Viti Levu lies one of the world’s most extraordinary shark diving destinations—Beqa Shark Reef Marine Reserve. This protected marine park is home to a mind-blowing lineup of apex predators, with up to eight different shark species regularly seen on a single dive. Among them: tiger sharks, lemon sharks, grey reefs, silvertips, and the Reserve’s true icon—the world’s largest aggregation of bull sharks.

Beneath the surface lies a wonderland of towering pinnacles and coral stacks barely hidden below the waves, each draped in cascading soft corals—yellows, purples, reds—moving with the current like underwater silk. It’s a region teeming with reef fish, from swirling clouds of anthias and fusiliers to bigeye trevally and barracuda, along with regular sightings of reef sharks, rays, and other pelagic visitors.
What sets Shark Reef apart isn’t just the thrill—it’s the purpose behind it. This is Fiji’s first National Marine Park, established through a visionary partnership between Beqa Adventure Divers, the Fiji Department of Fisheries, and the local Galoa village. In exchange for forgoing traditional fishing rights within the Reserve, the village receives direct support through a diver-funded conservation levy. Every dive contributes to local education, infrastructure, and reef stewardship.
The result? A thriving marine sanctuary where shark populations are stable, fish biodiversity is booming, and the benefits ripple far beyond the reef itself.
At the heart of it lies the Naiqoro Passage, a protected no-fishing zone requiring a special permit to enter—ensuring the reef stays pristine and full of surprises. Here, every dive is a discovery. With minimal boat traffic and few other divers around, it’s easy to feel like you’ve stumbled upon a secret underwater world.
Kadavu’s untouched nature, combined with the reef’s sheer scale and biodiversity, makes the Great Astrolabe one of Fiji’s most exhilarating and exclusive dive regions.
Beneath the surface, divers can explore coral-covered walls, swim-throughs, and bommies teeming with tropical fish. Expect encounters with curious reef sharks, turtles cruising over hard coral beds, and swirls of snapper, butterflyfish, and parrotfish going about their reef routines. Sites like the famous Supermarket and Gotham City in the Mamanucas are known for their shark activity, while the Yasawas offer a more remote, exploratory feel with occasional manta ray sightings.
Perfect for both beginners and seasoned divers, this region combines ease of access with natural beauty—ideal for relaxed days underwater followed by golden sunsets and island warmth above.
