Namena Marine Reserve

Why We Love It

Namena is a protected marine sanctuary packed with life — from schooling barracuda to reef sharks, mantas, and vibrant coral gardens. It’s remote, pristine, and one of the most biodiverse dive sites in all of Fiji.

Who It's For

Marine life lovers. Underwater photographers. Divers who want to witness biodiversity at its most dazzling.

Namena Marine Reserve is one of Fiji’s crown jewels—remote, pristine, and fiercely protected. Located off the coast of Savusavu between the islands of Vanua Levu and Wakaya, this no-take reserve is a sanctuary for marine life and a bucket-list dive destination for those seeking untouched beauty beneath the surface.

Stretching between Taveuni and Vanua Levu, Rainbow Reef is one of Fiji’s most iconic dive destinations—often hailed as the Soft Coral Capital of the World. Fueled by nutrient-rich currents from the narrow Somosomo Strait, this reef bursts with life and colour across more than 20 world-class dive sites.

From the glowing purples of Annie’s Bommie to the surreal beauty of the Great White Wall—a vertical drop draped in ghostly soft white corals—every dive here is a technicolour dream. Expect schooling anthias, reef sharks, turtles, and a dazzling display of coral diversity in every direction.

This reef is a biodiversity hotspot, home to 74% of Fiji’s known coral species and 55% of its reef fish species. Divers can expect encounters with vibrant coral gardens, reef sharks, turtles, and schools of pelagic fish. The reef also supports unique mangrove ecosystems and seagrass beds, playing a crucial role in coastal protection and supporting local communities

Diving in Namena feels like entering a hidden cathedral of coral. Vast walls and dramatic drop-offs are cloaked in swaying soft corals and massive sea fans, while bommies rise from the depths like underwater skyscrapers. The biodiversity here is staggering—from dense schools of fusiliers, barracuda, and snapper, to graceful manta rays and cruising grey reef sharks. You’ll often drift past vibrant nudibranchs, swirling anthias, and even the elusive pygmy seahorse, all in a single dive.

As part of Fiji’s largest marine protected area, Namena’s thriving reefs offer both high-adrenaline drift dives and serene coral gardens. It’s wild, colourful, and alive—one of the most rewarding dive experiences in the South Pacific.
